<p>PURPOSE:To execute coding and decoding with a simpler circuit, by processing both the gradation component and resolution component of picture data with the unit of blocks. CONSTITUTION:A picture is divided into blocks composed of the prescribed number of picture elements and the number of gradation is set in advance. Then, an interval between a maximum value and a minimum value is equally divided by the gradation number from the picture data in the block in the respective blocks and a gradation number is given to the respective picture elements to show that to which gradation they belong. The arrangement of the gradation number for one block is obtained as a vector and an output vector, which has the arrangement of the gradation number to be nearest the vector of the block, is selected out of the couples of the vectors of the gradation number set in advance whose realizing frequency is large. Then, the average gradation is obtained and the picture information are expressed by the gradation number and an index to designate the output vector. Thus, even both the gradation component and the arrangement of the gradation in the block (the resolution component) are processed with the block as the unit. Then, the constitution of a processing system is simplified and control is easily executed.</p> |
