PURPOSE: To obtain a display of uniform lightness by applying a driving signal, which is different in voltage amplitude corresponding to the scanning position of a row electrode, to a column electrode. CONSTITUTION: A row driver 6 outputs a sequential driving signal under the control of a scanning control part 7 to drive row electrodes 21 , 22 ...2m in order through an external connection terminal 4. A driving signal corresponding to data, on the other hand, is outputted by a column driver 9 under the control of a data control part 8 to drive a column electrode 3 through an external connection terminal 5. The voltage of the driving signal Vo of the column driver 9 is controlled with scanning control pulses P from a scanning control part 7 to vary in a saw-tooth shape corresponding to the scanning position of the column electrode 3. Namely, the voltage of the driving signal generated at the output of the column driver 9 rises as the scanning position of the row electrode 2 is far away from the external connection terminal and the voltage drop due to the resistance component of the row electrode 2 is corrected to apply a driving signal having the same amplitude between both the row and column electrodes at all the time. Consequently, a display of uniform lightness can be obtained over the entire surface of the display element. |
