PURPOSE:To provide a polycarbonate polymer excellent in optical properties, heat resistance, transparency, etc., by using 1,1-bis(4-hydroxy-3-t-butylphenyl) cyclohexane as a dihydric phenol component. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic polycarbonate polymer having repeating units of formula II is produced by using 1,1-bis(4-hydroxy-3-tert-butylphenyl) cyclohexane of formula I as a dihydric phenol component and combining this compound through carbonate bonds by a transesterification process or a phosgene process. The obtained polymer can be extensively used as an optical material, and because of its small photoelastic constant, it is useful for an optical information recording disc on which a signal is recorded with laser beams and from which the recorded signal is read by the reflection or transmission of laser beams. |
