For welding tongues onto sheet-metal parts, particularly tear-open can parts, a welding machine having at least one pair of welding electrodes is provided. The sheet-metal parts can be moved through in step between the welding electrodes, one behind the other, by a sheet-metal conveyor and be located in a defined position by a positioning device. The tongues can each be placed against a sheet-metal part between the welding electrodes in synchronism with the working cycle of the sheet-metal conveyor by a tongue conveyor.
