The invention relates to a lateral catch for gates, doors, hatches, shutters, etc., comprising a support which is essentially vertical and on which there are mounted, in the form of a movable unit, a sliding wedge and a stop hook interacting with it. This catch is characterised by the fact that the support 2 is made up of two U sections 6, 7 fixed parallel to and apart from each other, the ends 8, 9 of the branches of the U pointing towards one another and which between them receive the movable unit 5 made up of the sliding wedge 3 and stop hook 4, so that these two members project between the ends 8, 9 of the branches, substantially at right angles with respect to the longitudinal direction of these sections. <IMAGE>
