In a multi-cylinder piston pump, pistons (5) deliver, via pressure channels (15), into a common annular space (14). A valve plate (20), which contains specially designed indentations (23) and outflow orifices (25, 26, 27), is inserted into the annular space (14). An O-ring (22) held in a groove (21) presses a sealing washer (18) against a seat (24) of the valve plate (20). The indentations (23) and outflow orifices (25, 26, 27) can be drilled and embossed into the valve plate (20) in a simple way. Owing to the special shape of the outflow orifices (25, 26, 27), large outflow cross-sections and thus small valve lifts are obtained. As a result, pressure peaks and noises can be reduced. <IMAGE>
