In a hydraulic brake system for motor vehicles with a tandem brake master cylinder (1), a hydraulic power supply system (3) for feeding a brake booster (2) and a brake slip control device with control valves (28, 31, 29, 32, 33, 34, 37, 38, 42, 43) by means of which the pressure in the wheel brakes (FL, FR, RL, RR) can be controlled independently of the pressure in the tandem brake master cylinder, a safety feed device (46) is provided which, in the event of failure of the power supply system (3) and after switching off of the brake slip control, feeds a limited volume of pressure medium into the working chambers (20, 21) of the tandem brake master cylinder (1) by way of a line (44) and non-return valves (47, 48). The safety feed device (46) comprises a feed cylinder (45), which can be actuated by a diaphragm cylinder (56). A vacuum source (64) is provided for driving the diaphragm cylinder (56). <IMAGE>
