PURPOSE:To attain excellent recording and reproduction by adopting the single layer structure of a ferromagnetic metallic material for a front gap of a lower magnetic substance layer and an upper magnetic substance layer and separating the ferromagnetic metallic material at an interval twice or below the surface depth. CONSTITUTION:A lower magnetic substance layer 9 of a thin film magnetic head is made of a material such as 'Sendust(R)', 'Permalloy(R)' or Co group amorphous magnetic metallic layer, and the multi-layer film laminated structure is adopted to parts other than a front gap 9a and a back gap 9b, where many insulation layers 11, 11 made of SiO2 or the like are formed at an interval (m) twice or below the the surface depth delta at the upper limit frequency of the recording/reproducing signal flowing to a conductor coil layer 4. The upper magnetic layer 10 is made of the same material as the lower magnetic layer 9 and many insulation layers 12, 12 made of SiO2 or the like are formed along the inter-layer insulation layer 5 at an interval (n) being twice the surface depth delta except the front gap 9a. Since the metallic thin film is sectioned by the insulation layer in this way, the skin effect of the magnetic flux due to an eddy current is not caused and the permeability mu is not deteriorated and excellent recording/reproduction is attained. |
