In a traction drive elevator system, the ropes from the counterweight are fed over a secondary or deflection sheave to the bottom of a drive sheave, around the drive sheave for more than 180 DEG and then to the elevator car. The sheaves contain polyurethane inserts for the rope. The draw angles, vertical and horizontal, are 1.5 DEG .
