PURPOSE:To perform picture element density conversion with less picture quality deterioration within short processing time by judging what plural partial area in its circumference the picture element to be converted belongs to, and obtaining a weighting factor corresponding to said area. CONSTITUTION:The picture element to be converted is assumed to be P(k, l), and four reference picture elements O(i, j)-O(i+1, j+1) surrounding said picture element are considered, and the area between these four reference picture elements is divided into four parts respectively in two-dimensional directions. Then, it is decided what area among above-mentioned divided areas the picture element P(k, l) belongs to, and an address attached to the respective divided area is obtained. Next, as referring to a table, in which relation between the respective address and the weighting factor is stored, the weighting factor of the above-mentioned picture element P(k, l) to be converted is obtained. Next, a gradation value after conversion is obtained according to the gradation value of the picture element P(k, l) to be converted. |
