The wheel or track base (15) has hollow open ended resilient cylindrical tubes (12) mounted on it's outer surface with their axes transverse and inclined to the direction of travel. The tubes are pref. mounted in pairs to form a chevron pattern so that there is no transverse thrust developed on the wheel or track. The tubes are each of a cross-section which presents a facing convex surface. The tubes have an arcuate portion which defines the convex surface, and a flat web portion for engagement against the base.
