In an apparatus for the deflection of material conveyed by conveyor belt sections, having a circulating conveyor belt, parallel drive and deflection rollers, a tension and deflection roller arranged essentially at right angles to the conveying direction and having deflection devices, for example deflection rods, for the upper and lower conveyor belt strand, which are arranged at an angle of less than 90@ to the conveying direction, the deflection rods are designed so as to be capable of rotating about their longitudinal axes and are equipped with rotating bodies. The axes of rotation of the rotating bodies are designed so as to be perpendicular to the axes of rotation of the deflection rods.
