<p>The present invention relates to novel compounds which correspond to the formula: (CH2X)3CCH2O?OCH2C(CH2X)3 wherein each X is independently Br or Cl. These compounds were found to impart flame retardant property to various normally flammable organic polymers such as polyolefins, epoxy resins, unsaturated polyesters and styrene-based resins. The novel compounds may be prepared by the reaction of halogenated neopentyl alcohol with thionyl chloride.</p> |
