The invention relates to a stand for refuse bags and laundry bags with an upper, preferably rectangular or square bag retaining ring supported by stand struts and a swing lid which is pivotably mounted on a strut. The intention is to provide such a stand for laundry bags in which a substantial overhang at the back of the stand is avoided but the opening movement of the lid is not impaired. It is also to be possible, optionally, to fold the lid over onto the back of the stand. To this end, the invention is characterised by at least one pivot strut (rods 24, 25, 58) to whose upper end the lid (6) is pivotably connected, the lower end of the pivot strut likewise being pivotably mounted on the stand on a pivot bearing (26) below the plane of the lid. <IMAGE>
