The invention presents an element (1) for spanning openings such as doors or windows and, in particular, for spanning openings such as doors or windows having a space for receiving a roller blind. Conventional roller-blind casings have load-bearing bodies on which there is integrally formed or attached an apron which, viewed from beneath, has a desired arch. Roller-blind casings are designed in a U-shaped manner and each to be provided in addition to a lintel which spans a door or window opening. According to the invention, an element (1) is to be provided, by means of which the provision of a roller-blind casing in addition to a lintel can be dispensed with, by means of which, therefore, the spanning of doors or windows, along with the provision of a roller blind, can be considerably simplified.
