A device is described for raising the exhaust gas temperature of a diesel engine to the burn-off temperature of a soot burn-off filter arranged in the exhaust line. The device comprises an exhaust gas-intake air heat exchanger which, in order to avoid increased flow resistances in the exhaust line, is arranged in a secondary branch line.
