An article of furniture, such as a bed or couch, has a hinged part attached to the fixed main part. The hinge consists of a rail (1) attached to the fixed part and an arm (4) pivoted to the rail (1) and attached to the fixed part. The pivoted arm (4) has a pawl (5) which is guided by a slider (6) on the rail (1) so that it can engage a space between the teeth (2) formed on the rail (1) and so support the arm (4) in any desired position. The arm (4) is prevented from swinging beyond the horizontal position by a claw (10) on the pawl (5) which engages a notch (9) on the end of the rail (1). USE - Bed or couch with adjustable backrest.
