A heat transfer surface for boiling a liquefied gas formed by spraying a particulate mixture of metal and a plastic material onto a thermally conductive surface to form a coating comprising particles of plastic embedded in metal and heating to a temperature sufficient to volatilize the plastic material thereby forming pores in the metal coating.
