<p>SPINDLE LOCK-UP DEVICE A spindle lock-up device (11) is provided for releasably locking a rotary spindle (1) having a tool holder (9) to a non-rotatable support (2), such as the ram of a vertical boring machine, so that the spindle tool holder (9) also may be used as a fixed tool holder for the ram (2). The device (11) has a first spiroid gear member (14) -fixed to the ram (2), a second spiroid gear member (17) fixed to the spindle (1), and a third spiroid gear member (19) surrounding the spindle (1) and mounted for axial movement from a retracted to an extended position, the third gear member (19) simultaneously engaging the first (14) and second (11) gear members when in the extended position to lock the spindle (1) against rotation relative to the ram (2).
