PURPOSE: To obtain a self-disinfecting impression material comprising a powdery disinfectant such as a phenol derivative without transfer of a pathoghenic microorganism from a patient suffering from diseases in teeth through an impression. CONSTITUTION: This self-disinfecting impression material comprises a hydrocolloid, a gelling agent, a retarder, a filler, an additive and a disinfectant. An irreversible hydrocolloid such as an alginate or agar is preferred as the hydrocolloid. The disinfectant is preferably a phenol derivative (e.g. 2- isopropyl-5-methylphenol) or a quaternary ammonium compound having 1-100μm (preferably 5-40μm) particle diameter. The amount thereof added is 0.05-1.0 pt.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. impression material. The powdery disinfectant is initially premixed with the filler in an amount of 1-50 times based on the disinfectant and then added and mixed through a sieve having 150-400μm sieve opening in the other starting materials in a mixer when producing the impression material. Disinfection, etc., affecting dimensional compatibility is not required by using the impression material.
