Articles (I) of fireproof material are mfd. from a free-flowing base mixt. (II) of fireproof raw materials contg. resin(s) (III) and substances which form foam at a foaming temp. (TF); the process comprises mixing (II) with a free-flowing thermoplastic (IV) with plastification temp. (TP) below TF, processing this mixt. by plastification of (IV) at a temp. below TF to produce a mouldable material, and moulding this by a thermoplastic process, e.g., extrusion or injection moulding. (II) is mixed with PVC; a plasticiser is added after mixing (II) and (IV); (III) is aminoplastic or polyamide, or PF resin, or a mixt. of aminoplastic and PF resin; pref. (II) comprises 15-40wt.% heat-reactive phenolic with aldehyde as required, 25-40wt.% ammonium salt, 10-20wt.% carbohydrate or polyhydric alcohol and 15-40wt.% thermally-unstable organic nitrogen cpd.; pref. (II) also contains a water- or solvent-soluble or water-dispersible vinyl polymer binder, and an aminoplastic; (I) are sheathed with thermoplastic by co-extrusion or injection moulding. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful for the prodn. of fireproof wall sections, etc. Compared with prior-art materials, they have a long service life, and are easily mfd. in any shape using modern prodn. methods.
