In the case of a switching device having a switching element (12) and an operating element (14), the switching element (12) being arranged on a first part (22), and the operating element (14) being arranged on a second part (16) which can move into a limit position relative to the first part (22), in which limit position the switching element (12) is operated by the operating element (14), the switching element (12) is arranged on the first part (22) such that it can be displaced in the movement direction of the second part (16) and such that it automatically latches in various latching positions.
