A core body, produced from paper, paperboard, sawdust, chopped straw or similar natural products and intended for wreaths comprising plants and flowers, is to be protected in a simple manner against the penetration of moisture and the consequent loss in stability. This is achieved in that the core body (10) is provided with a coating (11) which consists of wax, paraffin or a similar biodegradable material. In each case, the surface of the core body (10) is provided with a coating (11) of this type, but it is also possible to dip the core body (10) into a bath of wax, paraffin or the like, with the result that all the surfaces, even those of the inner structure of the core body (10), are provided with the coating (11). Furthermore, it is also conceivable to produce a core body (10) by casting, to be precise using a material mixture comprising shreds of paper or paperboard, sawdust, chopped straw or the like, as well as wax or paraffin. <IMAGE>
