A cable housing system for use in a mining underground environment comprises a plurality of housing modules, each being formed of a folded belt (10) a synthetic neoprene. The belt (10) has a surrounding peripheral strap (18) at one end which maintains the belt (10) in the folded condition, the belt (10) being adapted to locate at the other end in a strap of an adjacent module. Each strap (18) is non-continuous, having end abutting flanges (20) and a hinged section (26). The strap (18) can be closed by a suitable connector co-operating with the strap flanges (2) but can be open for access and inspection to the interior of the belt (10) by removing the connector and opening the hinged section (26).
