PURPOSE:To facilitate makeup processing, etc., of printed matter consisting of intricate graphics by compressing the line image data stored in an image data memory means to run length data. CONSTITUTION:The image data for printing plate making including the line image data formed of the contour lines of patterns is inputted from an image data input means and is stored once into the image data memory means 7. A run length data forming means 6a reads the line image data out of the stored image data and compresses the data to the run length data. Since this line image data is stored into a run length data memory means 18, the memory capacity thereof can be decreased. Dot percent data are corresponded to the respective colors for coloring the image displayed on a display 17 by a color table forming means 13. An input screen display means 12 displays the color pallets which are color-coded by the colors which the dot percent data correspond by a dot percent data display means 12d.
