The present invention relates to a quick connector comprising a male element 1 and a female element 2 having a shutter 36 which can be displaced axially by the male element when it is inserted. The fixing between the male and female elements in their coupled position takes place by a ball-type locking 10, 6 controlled by a locking ring 6 comprising an annular groove 9 as well as an internal annulus 35 which is axially separated from this groove such that the axial displacement of the locking ring 6 holds the balls 10 in a radially clamped position or allows them to be released into a radially remote position as a function of the axial position of the locking ring. This locking ring comprises means 14, 7 for abutment against the edges 8, 4 made in the female element 2 in order to define these extreme release and locking positions. These means of abutment 14, 7 are produced as a radially reduced part of the ring 6 interacting with annular elements whose diameter is greater than the said radially reduced parts. <IMAGE>
