PURPOSE: To prevent an early breakdown by providing limiting members each limiting the deformation of the peripheral portion of each opening in a force- limiting energy absorber connected with a plurality of stretch members in the direction of the tensile stress each having the opening surrounded by the peripheral portion deformable under a tension load. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of (four in Fig.) stretch members 10 are arranged in a line between two fixing tools 12, 14 to form an energy absorber, and the fixing tool 12 is fixed to a vehicle body by a screw 16 and a belt lock 18 is fitted to the fixing tool 14, for example, to limit the force for a safety belt. Each stretch member 10 is formed into an elliptic shape having a center opening 20 as a whole, and the opposite long end is formed flat. In this energy absorber, a mushroom-shaped limiting member 24 is integrally formed on each of a pair of opposite longitudinal peripheral edge faces (flat faces) of each stretch member 10. A pair of limiting members 24, 24 are formed face to face with their head sections separated by the prescribed distance. |
