PURPOSE:To shorten the time for recording and erasing of information, to stabilize the long-period preservation of recorded information and to increase the number of repetitions of recording and erasing by specifying the compsn. of the optical recording medium of a rewritable type optical disk for which the reversible phase transformation of an optical recording material generated by projection of laser light is utilized. CONSTITUTION:This recording medium is constituted by forming a SiO2 film on the surface of a substrate consisting of polycarbonate, etc., provided with tracking grooves, providing the recording material, i.e., medium film, thereon and further, depositing a surface protective film consisting of org. matter for the SiO2 film successively thereon. The alloy expressed by the general formula BixTe100-x is used for the medium compsn. and is specified to a 35<=x<=45 range. This medium, therefore, has a high m.p. and high crystallization temp., has a stable amorphous state and effectively absorbs semiconductor laser light. The generation of phase sepn. and phase segregation by heating and cooling is obviated. The time for the recording and erasing of information is thereby shortened and the long-period preservation of the recorded information is stabilized; in addition, the number of repetitions of recording and erasing is increased. |
