The device consists of a roller assembly divided into two opposed series each comprising at least two pairs of superimposed rollers arranged in succession. The back rollers of the two series have a higher peripheral speed than the preceding rollers, also the rollers should be so placed that their axes are at an angle other than 90 deg. to the direction of advance of the sheet material being treated. In this way the tractive force of the back rollers also have a transverse component, thus ensuring perfect uniformity of area increase in all directions of the skins.
