A flat, flexible film web (2) is drawn off from a stock roll (3), moved over a forming shoulder (12) and thus formed into a tube (20). A longitudinal seam is made on the tube (20), the product to be packed is introduced and the package is sealed by transverse seams (17, 21). The film web (2) is driven continuously by means of drive rollers (7). The longitudinal and transverse seams are produced as the tube is being continuously advanced. A photocell (19) is used to scan printed marks on the film web (2) and a correcting means in the drive of the transverse welding jaws (40, 43) prevents the possibility of inaccuracies in the pack division being added.
