<p>PURPOSE:To enable economical automatic operation by heating and activating an oxidation catalyst when the concentration of a hardly-oxidized component exceeds the upper limit of a predetermined concentration range in an oxidizing operation at a first operation temperature, which is a low operating temperature. CONSTITUTION:The concentration of a representative component which is hardly catalytically oxidized is determined in an effluent gas, and an oxidation treatment is performed at a temperature for a first operation set at a low value such that the concentration is kept within a predetermined range. During this treatment, when it is revealed that the concentration is beyond the upper limit of the predetermined range, an oxidation catalyst is activated. Thereafter, the oxidation treatment is restarted at the temperature set at the first operation temperature, and the oxidation treatment and the activation are repeated. In the case where the concentration at the time of the restarting of the treatment after the activation is not lower than the predetermined value, the operation temperature is increased to a value which brings the concentration to the lower limit of the predetermined range. This temperature is considered to be a second operation temperature, and the oxidation treatment and activation are repeated based on this temperature.</p> |
