A cervical cap (10) for covering a portion of the cervix uteri in order to prevent migration of sperm from the vagina into the cervical canal to thereby prevent conception. The cervical cap has an open end portion (140), a dome-shaped portion (120), preferably sealed, disposed opposite the open end portion (140), and a ridged section (150) designed to grip the cervix to secure the cap. In the preferred embodiments, the ridged section (150) has a plurality of substantially parallel ring-shaped ridges (152, 154, 156) formed on the interior surface of the cap. In an alternate embodiment, a helical-shaped ridge (452) is formed on the interior surface (410) of the cap (40) and extends from the rim (430) to the dome portion (420), progressively narrowing in width. |
