PURPOSE:To simplify a structure of a tapped winding without spoiling a strong point of a low loss by a method wherein a high-voltage winding and a low-voltage winding of a transformer are constituted by using a superconducting conductor and the tapped winding is constituted by using a normal conducting conductor. CONSTITUTION:A low-voltage winding 2 and a high-voltage winding 3 are arranged in succession concentrically on a main leg 1 of an iron core; superconducting oxide material is used for a conductor constituting the main windings; a tapped winding 4 installed at their external periphery is formed by using a normal conducting material; a transformer is operated in a low-temperature state that the main windings can be operated in a superconducting state. If the main windings 2, 3 and the tapped winding 4 are all formed by using a superconducting conductor, especially it is difficult to extract a lead from the superconducting conductor; however, because the tapped winding 4 is formed by using a normal conducting conductor, a structure of the tapped winding does not become complicated. In addition, a load loss generated by the manin windings is reduced remarkably because the the main windings 2, 3 are composed of superconducting windings; even when only the tapped winding 4 is composed of a normal conducting winding, an effect to reduce a loss as a normal conducting transformer is not spoiled.
