The invention relates to a liquid-crystal demonstration device to be placed onto the demonstration surface of an overhead projector, consisting of two plates which can be transluminated and are provided with electrodes, between which plates liquid crystals are arranged, and which are held together by a frame which accommodates electrical lines and connecting devices for electrically controlling the electrodes. The object of the invention is to create a liquid-crystal demonstration device which is heated to a lesser degree, can operate independently of a mains power pack (power supply unit) and therefore requires less work and skill with setting up and dismantling and also needs less space. The invention achieves this object in that the liquid-crystal demonstration device is a carrier of solar cells or is combined with a carrier of solar cells, the solar cells being arranged at least on the side facing the light source of the overhead projector.
