An arrangement for monitoring the degree of damage caused by material fatigue has sensors (1) placed at points on a building, vehicle, machine or the like which are critical in terms of the mechanical loading. These sensors supply measurement signals to a recording and/or indicating device (16) which is connected to an evaluation circuit (6-11) exhibiting a counter or a summing memory device. In the evaluation circuit (6-11), by processing of and logic operations on the extreme values of the signals supplied by the individual sensors (1) a cumulative load signal is obtained, stored and a degree of damage determined which is continuously compared with a predetermined permissible degree of damage, and when this value is exceeded an alarm signal is triggered.
