PURPOSE:To obtain an ECD having excellent performance in response speed, coloring efficiency, etc. and improved stability and life by constituting an insulation layer of >=2 layers of dielectric films differing in performance such as response speed, coloring efficiency, stability and life. CONSTITUTION:The 1st electrode 2 consisting of a transparent dielectric film such as ITO film (contg. 5% SnO2 in In2O3) is formed on a transparent substrate 1, and an electrochromic layer 3 of WO3 is provided by a vacuum deposition method thereon. Further an insulation layer 4 is provided thereon. Said layer 4 consists of dielectric films 4a, 4b which are respectively different. Ta2O5 which is superior in performance such as response speed and coloring effect but is inferior in terms of a life is used for the layer 4a, and ZrO5 which is inferior in terms of performance but is superior in terms of stability and life is used for the layer 4b. The 2nd electrode 5 of Au is further formed thereon whereby the fully solid state EC element is obtd. |
