A unit for treatment of electrical apparatus 10, filled with sulphur hexafluoride, comprises a gasometer 28 for storing the decomposed gas to which the pole 10 to be treated can be connected. The gas under pressure in the pole 10 escapes towards the gasometer 28 and the gas residue is removed by introducing a neutralising liquid into the pole 10. The gas stored in the gasometer 28 is treated by flowing through an adsorbent cartridge 38 under the action of a suction-compressor unit 42 which delivers the treated gas in liquid form into a container 44. The operation is entirely automated. <IMAGE>
