Compounds of the formula <FORM:0756509/IV(a)/1> where R is methyl or ethyl (see Specification 717,227) are prepared by reacting the corresponding 1 - alkyl - 4 - thenylamino - piperidines with mono-halogenated benzenes; if desired, they may be converted into salts. The process may be carried out at room or higher temperature and an acid-binding agent is preferably present, e.g. alkali carbonate, alkali amide or copper powder; a solvent may also be used. An example is given of the process using 1 - methyl - 4 - (21 - thenylamino) - piperidine, bromobenzene and copper powder; the tartrate of the product is described. |
