In a fixture for clamping workpieces in the correct position, in particular for use in electrical discharge metal machining units, a clamping angle for accommodating and mounting the workpiece is provided which is firmly connected to a retaining plate which is in turn connected in a vertically adjustable manner to a base plate which relative to a fixed reference plate, in particular a machine table, is displaceable in its plane with parallel faces. With a fixture of this type, a workpiece can be exactly orientated with regard to both absolute spacing dimensions and its surface orientation. In addition, the fixture has the special advantage that it can be orientated for correct position, with a positioning angle, with a clamped workpiece outside the machine, while the machine itself machines a similar workpiece. An overlap is thus obtained between orientation on the one hand and machining on the other hand, as a result of which the setting-up time of a machine tool can be minimised. <IMAGE>
