The invention relates to a gluing device for end papers within a book binding machine, in which the book blocks with positioned end papers are transported and bound with the spine downwards. At a working station for gluing the end papers (3), end paper guide members (5), engaging between the outer signatures of the book blocks (1) and the end papers (3), are arranged on both sides of the continuously conveyed book blocks (1) provided with positioned end papers (3). These guide members spread the end papers (3) away from the outer signatures of the book block (1) during the continuing movement of the book block (1), so that a wedge-shaped gap is formed. A gluing disc (6) can engage into this and apply a defined strip of glue directly onto the end papers (3), end papers supporting members (7) offering a counter-support. The end papers (3) are cleanly bonded in the necessary quality to the outer signatures of the book block (1). <IMAGE>
