Method for heat recovery and control of catalytic or thermal afterburning

To improve the heat recovery and control of the purification of exhaust air which contains combustible pollutants at a sufficiently high concentration by the method of catalytic or thermal afterburning, a predetermined pollutant concentration beneath the lower explosion limit is first established by adding fresh air and then, by adding a part-stream of the purified hot exhaust air, the pollutant-containing exhaust air is heated to the values suitable for the catalytic or thermal afterburning.
