The winding of a spiked strip by means of a reel (24) to which a helical motion is imparted and which is surrounded coaxially by a synchronously rotatable turntable (29) with five clipping devices (28) is known. The disadvantage is that, despite a high outlay on machinery, defects in the spiked strip or in the winding thereof lead to difficulties in the setting of the clips. Another disadvantage is that, with an existing machine set-up, it is only possible to produce rolls of a diameter determined by the said set-up and with a certain clip distribution. The object is to eliminate the difficulties encountered in clipping, to reduce the outlay on machinery and to allow conversion in a simple manner to produce rolls of different diameter and different clip distribution.
