PURPOSE:To realize the separation and the identification of an area extending over a wide range without increasing a memory, by performing first area identification by the local character of a read image, and performing second general area identification by obtaining coarse information from the above identification result. CONSTITUTION:A signal from a color sensor 101 is A/D-converted, and unevenness, etc., in the signal is corrected at a normalization circuit 104, and is converted to an ink quantity signal at a color conversion circuit 105. The signal is compressed to an image element of 1/16 at a thinning processing circuit 107 via a low-pass processing circuit 106, and is inputted to a multilevel line memory 108. The output of the circuit 106 and an original image are inputted to an adder 109, then, a differential signal can be obtained, and it is multiplied by K at a ROM table 110, and is added on the original image at an adder 111, and is changed to a signal whose high- pass is enhanced, and it is binarized, then, is recorded on a memory 113 for recording a binary image. The output of the adder 109 is binarized, and the identification is performed at a local identification circuit 115 by a pattern matching method, and the identification of its output is performed at a second identification circuit 116 by almost the same method as the above method. |
