PURPOSE:To enhance the efficiency of an engine and contrive to improve fuel consumption by a method wherein an actuation changing-over device to shift between a working position to transmit the oscillating motions of cam followers to valve lifters and a non-working position not to transmit the oscillating motions of the cam followers to the valve lifters is provided. CONSTITUTION:Valve lifters 12 and 13 are selectively connected to corresponding cam followers 18 and 19 by means of an actuation changing-over device A in accordance with the rotational frequency of an engine 1. In other words, when the actuation changing-over device A is at its working position, the oscillating motions of cam followers 18 and 19 driven by cams 28' and 28 respectively are transmitted to the valve lifters 12 and 13, while when the actuation changing- over device A is at its non-working position, the oscillating motions of the cam followers 18 and 19 are not transmitted to the valve lifters 12 and 13. A suction valve 5 and an exhaust valve 7 are selectively put into inactivity and consequently the efficiency of the engine can be enhanced and the improvement of the fuel consumption can be contrived. |
