A gas-tight furnace, in particular a vacuum furnace, has a hood-shaped upper section and a bottom that are each provided with a circumferential coupling flange. A socket device for holding objects is provided in the bottom, the socket device being at anode or cathode potential and electrically insulated from the bottom or the furnace by an insulating unit. The insulating unit consists of a plate of electrically insulating material which rests on a support, that in turn stands on the bottom of the furnace.
