An electrical conductor is described comprising an element exhibiting superconductivity above 77K, which is surrounded by an evacuated space to avoid excessive consumption of the liquid nitrogen which maintains the element at 77K. A non-evaporable getter material is placed in the vacuum space to maintain a pressure less than 10<-><1> torr (13.3 Pa).
