FUSION SPLICING METHOD FOR OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To prevent the occurring of axis misalignment of both optical fibers to be connected by burning and dispersing residual coat on the surfaces of the optical fibers by a heating means such as a discharging means. CONSTITUTION:After removing the coat 2 of a coated optical fiber 4 and cutting off the optical fiber 1, discharge is executed by discharge electrodes 7 to heat a part 8 of the surface of the fiber 1 and to burn and disperse a primary coat 6 left on the part 8 at a temperature lower than the softening point of the fiber 1 and more than the flash point of the coat 2 prior to put the fiber 1 in a jig for aligning the axes of optical fibers. Since the primary coat 2 can be completely removed from the surface of the optical fiber 1 by discharge heating in a short time, no axis misalignment is occurred at the time of axis aligning of the optical fibers 1 and the stable connection of the fibers 1 can be attained.
