PURPOSE:To produce a highly stereoregular polymer having a uniform shape, by polymerizing olefins using a catalyst consisting of a solid catalyst component obtained from specific components, Si compound and organoaluminum compound. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst consisting of (A) a solid catalyst component obtained by preparing a homogeneous solution using a magnesium halide, a tetraalkoxytitanium and phthalic acid diester in an amount of <=2pts.wt. based on 1pt.wt. magnesium halide, an aliphatic hydrocarbon which is a liquid at -30-+50 deg.C and an aliphatic alcohol which is a liquid at -30-+50 deg.C, dripping the resultant solution to TiCl4 at <=0 deg.C, heating the obtained solution, adding a phthalic acid diester at >=80 deg.C, separating a solid product and bringing TiCl4 into contact therewith in the presence of an aromatic (halogenated) hydrocarbon, (B) an Si compound expressed by the formula (R is alkyl, etc.; R' is alkyl; 0<=m<4) and (C) an organoaluminum compound.
