PURPOSE:To obtain fibers capable of cultivating plants having good rooting of plant and hard stem and leaf, by coating the surface of fibers containing soluble silicic acid, insoluble phosphoric acid, insoluble magnesia, insoluble potassium, lime content as main components and a specific amount of very small components with a nitrogen-containing polymer. CONSTITUTION:Fibers containing 10-60wt.% soluble silicic acid, 1-30wt.% insoluble phosphoric acid, 1-30wt.% insoluble magnesia, 1-30wt.% insoluble potassium and 10-40wt.% lime content as main components and one or more insoluble manganese, insoluble boron, iron, molybdenum, copper and zinc as very small amount components are produced. The fibers properly have 1-9mum average fiber diameter and 1-10cm average fiber length. When the fibers are molded into mat, etc., and used as a medium for aquiculture for plants, aquiculture of plants can be readily carried out without requiring skill since fertilizer components contained in the fibers are rapidly dissolved and absorbed in plants.
