PURPOSE:To obtain the same effect as driving plural floppy disk drives by a host system, by directly connecting a device to an interface cable for floppy disk drive of the host system. CONSTITUTION:The information recording area of an optical disk 32 has a zone structure where the area is divided by the capacity corresponding to one floppy disk. When a power switch 3 is turned on, an optical head 34 is moved to the outermost peripheral zone, and the difference between the zone number of the zone where the head 34 should be positioned and the present zone number is calculated by a drive select signal 7 from a host system 1, and the head is positioned to the designated zone through a stepping motor drive circuit 41. Consequently, the same effect as driving plural floppy disk drives by the system 1 is obtained with one device.
